Records pertaining to the establishment of the State Bank and its branches, 1820-1837.

This series consists of administrative and financial records, which depict the development and functions of the Bank of the State of Alabama since its establishment in 1820 and the formation of State Branch Banks in ca. 1832. Included are deeds, statement of financial conditions (balance sheets), the appointment of Bank attorneys by the president of the State Bank and by Governor John Murphy, acts concerning the payment of debts, letters from the Tombigbee and Mobile banks to Governor Murphy and to Samuel Pickens (State Auditor, aka: Comptroller of Public Accounts), deeds, letters to the Bank, and acts describing the establishment of Branch Banks at Mobile, Montgomery, Decatur, and Huntsville. This series depicts the move of the Capitol of the Alabama state government from Cahawba to Tuscaloosa in 1825 and 1826.
